Professor Chatterjee was a founding member of the Subaltern studies collective. He is the author of more than 30 books in English and Bengali and has edited volumes in both languages. Since 1997 he was a professor of political science at the University of Columbia and the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences (CSS) where he was director from 1997 to 2007.
